Lacombe County is seeking an Equipment Operator/Truck Driver to join the road construction and maintenance department teams within our Operations Department.
The Equipment Operator is primarily responsible for operating a backhoe to move loads of various material (dirt, rock, sand).
The Truck Driver position transports construction and maintenance materials and equipment, and performs snow clearing and material spreading activities in the winter months.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely and responsibly operate an excavator for the maintenance and construction of County roads, drainage and other works as assigned.
• Haul and spread gravel along County roads as required and in conjunction with the gravel program.
• Transport equipment as required.
• Operate winter maintenance equipment, including plow truck, for the purposes of snow plowing, sanding, salting and ice removal.
• Participate in the on-call rotation during the winter season and respond to on-call work requests.
• Work alongside other crew members to assist in road construction and other County projects.
• Perform daily and routine safety and maintenance checks of the equipment before operation, ensuring all systems are functioning correctly to maintain optimal performance levels. Clean the equipment as scheduled.
• Participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings as required. Report to work fit for duty.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
Key Qualifications
• Must possess, and be able to maintain, a valid class 1 Alberta driver’s license. Current abstract required.
• Be able to operate required heavy equipment and trucks in a safe and responsible manner- must be able to follow safe work practices and abide by all safety policies, rules, and regulations.
• Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform physical labour, including heavy lifting.
• Must have a proven ability to interact with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner.
