Our EDO (Engineering Design Organization) is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to take on the role of Intermediate Design Manager based out of our Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB office. As an Intermediate Design Manager, you will lead projects in the Western Canada Region and support internal Project Managers, throughout the GHD Enterprise, in all aspects of the project with a primary focus on organizing the technical team to complete the task; control the design path, solve problems, and hold responsibility for the design. You will also lead the contract and construction administration team through construction to achieve the final result.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Work closely with Project Managers on all major project functions, with a primary focus on managing the technical project team
  • Coordinate technical team leads of the different design disciplines
  • Develop or verify the technical scope of a project
  • Lead the creation and execution of design work plan and LOE
  • Manage project design budget in collaboration with the Project Manager and design discipline leads
  • Oversee the engineering schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager and design discipline leads
  • Lead interdisciplinary design coordination meetings and address critical issues that impact external partners
  • Work closely with the engineering group to facilitate decision-making related to design, the choice of process and equipment and day-to-day problems
  • Ensure the client’s requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project
  • Responsible for quality control of all deliverable submittals and to ensure quality control processes are being followed
  • Ensure fluid communication between the project management team, the design team, construction team and the various internal and external stakeholders as engineering elements
  • Mentor and develop junior staff
  • Responsible for implementing and following the project’s Change Control system, including proactive escalation of potential changes
  • Serve as liaison between the site and engineering disciplines during construction and oversee the review of shop drawings
  • Responsible for producing a compliant, constructible design in accordance with Client requirements, Operation and Maintenance requirements and Construction requirements
  • Ensure the design produced follows appropriate engineering processes, including GHD and Project specific processes

What you will bring to this team:

  • Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university
  • Minimum of 8+ years' of broad and extensive technical, administrative and project experience
  • Experience in managing the design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects an asset
  • Experience with industrial/process plants, facilities, or buildings
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste, or Transportation Infrastructure industries, either for private or public clients, is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering, capital cost estimating techniques and various construction contracting strategies is a definite asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities
  • Strong leadership, team building, organization and mentoring skills

Salary Range: $106,128 to $159,192 based on experience.
