About this role

As a Junior Platform Engineer, you will join the Global Base Platform Infrastructure (GBPI) team. The Global Base Platform Infrastructure team is responsible for setting up and managing all base infrastructure in our cloud environment primarily utilizing Amazon AWS. A key responsibility of the role involves designing and maintaining robust, high-performing and secure infrastructure, all whilst ensuring that appropriate guardrails are in place. These infrastructures are developed to meet the specific requirements and needs of both the organisation and development teams for their respective applications.

Furthermore, the role includes managing accounts and access controls for these infrastructure environments to ensure consistency across the organisation. You will also be responsible for the upkeep of the entire platform network stack, which spans multiple regions and includes external factors such as DNS and CDN services, all managed through infrastructure as code.

Location: Ontario Remote 

Reporting to: Technology Manager

These are some of the key components to the position:  

• Design and implement complex cloud infrastructure environments

• Design and implement complex network environments

• Maintain and further expand our Infrastructure as Code repositories

• Take ownership of the work you deliver

• Being able to work in a fast paced environment, both independently and together with the team

• Participate in on-call rotations

What will you bring to the team? 

• A fresh mind with an eagerness to learn new things

• Basic knowledge of AWS services (i.e EC2, S3, RDS)

• Interested in learning more about Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its features

• Basic experience with Terraform

• Experience with configuration management tooling (Ansible / Puppet)

• A basic understanding of cloud networking (AWS VPC, AWS Transit Gateway, AWS Network firewall)

• A basic understanding of DNS (we use Route53, Cloudflare)

• Experience with Linux (we use Debian and Ubuntu)

• An understanding of the concept of Identity and Access Management (AWS IAM / AWS IAM Identity Center)

• Experience with monitoring and logging solutions (Zabbix / Datadog / Cloudwatch)

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal English

• A strong will to automate and thus a healthy interest in skilling up your scripting knowledge

Nice to have:

• Experience with working in scrum sprints (agile methodology)

• Knowledge of microservice environments
