Position Overview
Safety of our employees is THE top priority at Zenterra. The Construction Safety Officer develops, implements, enforces and evaluates Zenterra’s safety policies and procedures. This role plays an indispensable part in promoting a safety-first culture and in maintaining a safe work environment. You are responsible for educating and increasing safety awareness of all workers and trades. In addition, you will inspect construction sites regularly to ensure strict compliance with workplace safety regulations.

Key Accountabilities and Supporting Tasks
Risk Assessment and Management
Evaluate and monitor health and safety hazards and develop strategies to control risks
Inspect equipment and machinery to identify and prevent possible unsafe conditions
Inspect worksites to ensure that equipment, materials and production processes do not present a safety or health hazard to employees, subcontractors or the general public
Safety Programs, Policies and Procedures
Develop, execute and evaluate health and safety plans in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
Enforce safety policies and help build a culture of health and safety
Chair / hold all required health and safety related meetings
Evaluate safety program’s effectiveness, and make any necessary changes
Training & Reporting
Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
Provide necessary training and orientation to new employees on safe work practices
Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports on health and safety incidents/issues and statistics
Safety Investigation
Investigate health and safety related complaints and prepare incident reports
Maintain ongoing correspondence with the relevant authorities for all aspects of safety requirements
Qualifications
Must-have:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the construction industry working on 4 to 6 story wood frame multi-family projects (Townhome and Condo buildings)
OFA Level 2 and above
Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations pertaining to the specific trade or activity being managed
Nice-to-have:
CRSP or CSSE designated
Post-Secondary education in workplace health and safety
Previous experience working with subcontractors and vendors to meet tight deadlines
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work flexible hours and work around a changing schedule
