Durham OneNet Inc is an independent Municipal Services Corporation, wholly owned by the Regional Municipality of Durham.   Durham OneNet's mandate is to design, build and operate a fibre-optic backbone network across Durham Region. This network will facilitate faster and more reliable broadband access to Durham Region residents, businesses, and institutions so that they may fully participate, compete, and thrive in the twenty-first century.

Job Title: Contract Fibre Optic Network Design and Construction Support


Location: 3000 Garden St, Whitby and Durham Region project construction sites
Duration: 6 Month Contract

About Durham OneNet Inc.
Durham OneNet is dedicated to building and expanding the region's fibre optic network, bringing high-speed connectivity to the community. We are looking for a motivated contractor to join our team and contribute to our ongoing fibre optic network construction projects.

Position Overview
As a contractor at Durham OneNet, you will support our team in various tasks related to fibre optic outside plant construction, municipal consent permit submissions, and GIS database management. Your work will play a key role in ensuring that our network is built efficiently and in compliance with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review Fibre Optic Outside Plant Designs: Assist with reviewing and verifying fibre optic outside plant designs to ensure compliance with municipal consent requirements before submission for permits.
  • Input As-Built Drawings: Accurately input As-built construction drawings into the 3-GIS database to maintain up-to-date records of network infrastructure.
  • Equipment Inventory Tracking: Support the tracking and management of fibre optic network equipment and materials to ensure proper inventory and availability for construction projects.
  • Additional Support: Provide assistance with various other duties related to fibre optic network construction, including administrative tasks and documentation management.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Fibre Optic Outside Plant Design and Construction: Knowledge of the key components of fibre optic network infrastructure and experience with municipal consent standards and requirements,
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design review and data input.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with other staff members.
  • Self-Motivated and Reliable: Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Additional Requirements

  • Available to work in-office at 3000 Garden St, Whitby and at project sites across Durham Region.
  • A valid driver’s license and own vehicle for business use (mileage to be expensed)
  • Experience with GIS Software and AutoCAD is a significant asset
