POSITION SUMMARY
Haida Tourism is a Haida-owned company, owned and operated by Haida Enterprise Corporation (HaiCo). HaiCo is focused on building Haida owned enterprises that reflect Haida cultural values, investing in the training and mentorship of Haida Citizens, creating careers and improving the lives of Haida Citizens and the economy of Haida Gwaii.
The driver position reports to the Director of Guest Services and is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience. The Driver will work with the guest service team to deliver this experience. The hours of work will include evenings and weekends.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that guests are transported to guided activities and to airports as needed.
- Do pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicles to ensure operational safety and compliance
- Perform routine checks on fluid levels, tires, brakes and lights
- Ensure timely and secure transportation of Guests and their luggage, maintaining awareness of road and weather conditions.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company safety policies and standard operating procedures
- Maintain the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the vehicles
- Promptly report any mechanical issues, damages, safety concerns or incidents to the Director of Guest Experience.
- Represent Haida Tourism in a professional manner, promoting a positive and safe environment for other staff and guests
- Ensure respectful and timely communication with guests, staff and members of the community.
- Other related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent conversational skills focused on service delivery
- Clean driver’s abstract and demonstrated a safe driving record.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
- Strong understanding of Haida culture, values and history
- Adaptable and resilient with last-minute changes
TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 1+ years of experience in the tourism or hospitality industry
- Valid BC driver’s license with Class 4 unrestricted
- Excellent knowledge of Haida Gwaii and connections in the community to support building out guest experiences
- A valid First Aid ticket is considered an asset
