We are proud to be partnering with Engineering Design Lab (EDL), a cutting-edge, boutique engineering firm headquartered in Toronto. With a reputation for innovation, EDL specializes in multidisciplinary design and development across electric mobility, marine systems, and custom scientific equipment. They deliver full-cycle engineering solutions to clients worldwide while investing heavily in internal R&D and proprietary technology.

EDL thrives at the forefront of electric propulsion systems, unique electric vehicles, and high-performance engineering challenges — and they’re now looking to add a talented Embedded Hardware Designer to their dynamic team.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced R&D environment, ideal for someone who thrives on technical diversity and end-to-end project ownership. You’ll engage in everything from low- and high-voltage system design, PCB design, embedded firmware coding, to integration, testing, and troubleshooting.

Beyond technical work, this role involves collaboration with clients, mentoring junior team members, and participating in the strategic development of new technologies. You’ll work closely with a passionate team of engineers who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in embedded systems and electromechanical design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of embedded hardware systems (both low and high voltage)

  • PCB schematic and layout design; circuit simulation

  • Firmware development (e.g., C, C++, Python)

  • Prototyping and field/lab testing

  • Integration of electronics into functional prototypes

  • Technical reporting and documentation

  • Support and mentoring of junior engineers and interns

  • Direct involvement in client communications and presentations

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate or Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or mechatronics engineering (CEAB-accredited institution)

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in industry or technical extracurricular design teams

  • Proficiency with embedded systems (hardware and software)

  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design (KiCad/Altium)

  • Hands-on experience with circuit testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)

Bonus Points For

  • Leadership in engineering teams (academic or professional)

  • Prototyping experience in electromechanical systems

  • Familiarity with microcontroller platforms, buses like UART/SPI/I2C, and high-voltage EV systems

  • Exposure to CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) and engineering project management

Why Join EDL?

  • Opportunity to work on diverse, highly innovative projects

  • Collaborative, tight-knit team in a flat organizational structure

  • Flexibility in work hours and time off

  • Access to advanced tools and hands-on development

If you're passionate about building the next generation of embedded systems and thrive in a hands-on, exploratory environment — this is your chance to make a tangible impact.
