Job Summary:
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Engineering Specialist II, Engineer, Aerodynamics and CFD to join our dynamic Flight Sciences team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) efforts for our aircraft design projects. This role requires a deep understanding of aerodynamic principles, CFD methodologies, and the ability to apply these skills to optimize aircraft performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform aerodynamic analysis and design for aircraft components and systems.
- Develop and implement aerodynamic design strategies to enhance aircraft performance, efficiency, and safety.
- Conduct CFD simulations to analyze and predict aerodynamic behavior, including flow characteristics, drag, lift, and stability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including structural engineers, propulsion experts, and wind tunnel test teams, to integrate aerodynamic solutions into overall aircraft design.
- Perform wind tunnel testing and validation of CFD results.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in aerodynamics and CFD technologies and incorporate them into design processes.
- Coordinate, plan, and continuously monitor the requirements and needs of the CFD IT infrastructure to optimize efficiency and meet the data processing requirements in each phase of design and aircraft development.
- Prepare and present technical reports, documentation, and presentations to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in aerodynamics and CFD, preferably in the aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., NSU3D, Overflow, FUN 3D, STAR-CCM+).
- Excellent understanding of aerodynamic principles and fluid dynamics.
- Extensive experience in meshing and grid generation, utilizing industry-standard software such as Pointwise.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve meshing issues to improve simulation performance and accuracy.
- Experience with lower order solvers and vortex lattice methos such as AVL, OpenVSP
- Experience with wind tunnel planning, testing and data analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Great collaborator with the groups that make up an aircraft development team.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
Desired Attributes:
- Experience with aircraft design and development.
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and automation. Familiarity with industry standards and certification processes.
- Prior experience in an aerospace start-up or with electric aircraft development is highly valued.
