The Role:  

This senior-level position within the Finance team plays a crucial role in overseeing all areas of general accounting, with responsibility for preparing financial reports and statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.  

In addition to these core responsibilities, this position demands a robust capacity for in-depth research and financial analysis. The successful candidate will analyze financial data and trends to support strategic decision-making processes within The Foundation. This will involve collaborating with other departments to assess the financial implications of various projects and initiatives, providing insights that guide budgetary planning and resource allocation. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential for identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost savings.    

Core Areas of Responsibility:   

Financial Reporting 

  • Prepares reports and analysis such as variance analysis and financial statement analysis 

  • Prepares various ad-hoc reporting based on requests across the organization  

  • Prepares month end financial statements and ensures that general ledger is balanced at month end 

  • Prepares analytical reports for finance team  

  • Prepares quarter and year-end financial statements and supports the preparation of financial statement note disclosures 

  • Completes year end and beginning of year duties such as general ledger reconciliations, spending policy calculations, and administrative fee calculations 

  • Supports finance area activity including gift entry review and tax receipting issues, gift of securities, accounts and grants payable processes, fund coding and all other general accounting functions 

  • Oversees the gathering of information related to and final completion of the T3010 

  • Other duties as assigned   

Budgeting 

  • Conducts variance analysis related to budgets  

  • Track actual spending related to budgets and advise management of potential risks  

  • Review biweekly AP entries  

  • Track the depreciation of fixed assets  

  • Prepare monthly budget overviews and quarterly reports  

  • Conducts budget year-end reconciliations  

 Education and Experience    

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role 

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation is an asset

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) and virtual meeting software

The Recruitment Process  

As part of The Foundation’s value for being transparent; the following are the stages of our recruitment process:  

  • Job posting (3 weeks in circulation)  

  • Phone screening – (conducted after the closing date; duration: 2 weeks)  

  • First in-person interview (conducted within 2 weeks after phone screening interviews)  

  • Second in -person interview (within 2 weeks after the first interview)  

  • Start date: June 2025
